Hacktioncamp 2022

HacktionLab presents "That tech is mine!": a hacktionlab / barnCamp Reunion - featuring discussions on alt-media, radical tech collectives, right to repair, free and open source software, the maker mentality, and the old hacker ethic.

Time - 10,11, 12th June 2022

Main Idea

A reunion of people and ideas that went on at BarnCamps and Hacktionlabs. Friends of Friends welcome as we can let them know the general vibe.

Format

Unconference (with some organising to make sure we have enough sessions)

Timing, accommodation

Arrive Friday 10th June from 2pm depart Sunday from 3pm? Cost: a small charge to cover some things Accommodation: A campsite central to Todmorden only 5 mins walk from the Golden Lion

Food

Food: Camp Catering and at the College is possible - There are lots of places to eat in Todmorden. How involved this is still not confirmed.

This topic is broadly on sustainability and tech with a green, progressive focus. especially repair culture.

• what is the right to repair movement? what's going on right now? where did it come from and what is it's heritage?

• green pcs / devices- reuse, low power, ltsp update?,
• greener web - static sites, servers
• "sustainbility and technology" - see below

Sustainablity can be liberally interpreted. To make this gathering accessible and to keep us grounded, we invite a broad definition of sustainability to include , personal sustainability - self-care, looking after social movements as well as care of planet via environmental aspects. This may include the following themes.

The Maker Community workshop Space inside Tod College - a history of the project would be great, and the wider history of the building and what's going on in there. Other local groups in the building/local area that we could invite to speak via lightening talks.

Other things we could cover:

"Free Software: A New Hope" - a operatic spectacular about the life of Richard M Stallman, the Obi Wan of the Free Software movement (although I feel he was probably a member of the Sith - RMS that is). (Mike would like to play Larry Wall if possible)

- show some old classic riot porn just to show how old and classic some of us are - screen "What A Wonderful Life" - a feel good film that everyone likes, even when its not Christmas - screen an edgy film that will probably fuck with everyone's heads and send them to bed early

The upstairs room of the Golden Lion is pretty cheap to hire if we get 20-30 people up for it it could be worth it
