Lean is a methodology for eliminating waste from processes, focusing on increasing the value of what is produced by it.  It originated in post-war Japan under the guidance of W. Edwards Demming.  This resulted in the Toyota Production System and the advent of Lean Manufacturing and Lean Process Management.  It's been adopted into software through Lean Software Development, and to business through Lean Management and Lean Start-up.

This all sounds very business-orientated, where often ''value'' is determined as ''profit'' or ''share-holder value'' but at its heart it tells us about practices for working that can help anyone, whatever they do.  We'll look at a brief history of Lean, how it's applied in other areas (mainly Software and Startups) and how we could take advantage of it in our project, campaign or organisation.
